The North ( Germany)

After several Italian landscapes, a trip to Northern Germany gave me the chance to change subject… the plan was to try several plein air paintings, I did not really succeed in it- too much wind and rain and cold… typical weather apparently, not “Italian painter friendly”

If something more will come from the NordSee experience it will be rigorously from photos !

very much Italy ( for me)

Here the last of the plein air painting done in Italy – the city is the same but the scene could happen in a lot ot Italian small towns in spring time. There is nothing really spectacular but I have my memories of “Italian living abroad” that makes it beautifuly to my eyes,  so that´s why I have chosen this spot.

The painting experience was also very Italian, It was afternoon and I was between a bar with icecreams & co and the window of a bikini shop… when I stated painting it was still too early for having people around, but at 16:00 the shops  opened and the world came out. It´s a proof of focus, like a shaolin monk, to paint in that confusion with comments, kids, icecreams, and all the possible humanity but I can say I didn´t enjoy it.

Usual 24×30 cm oil

Corso del popolo – a view from an Italian bar

One of the first paintings done in Chioggia, the corso is just very pretty and here we choose a particularly comfortable situation …we painted from the bar tables just in front of the subject, with the great advantage to sit, having been served coffee and wine.

At the end of the session, I went inside the bar to pay and one man asked me to portrait him next time I would have been there… ok, I said, next time for sure

Canale San Domenico

I would like to share another memory of the plein air painting in Italy, fisher boat in warm afternoon light. The hotel was very close to the channel and I could eat the sounds of the boats during the night.

To complete the experience, while painting an ex fisherman explained me how a proper boat needs to be built, which shapes are good etc

My limited technical understanding and the strong venetian dialect prevented me to really get it and unfortunately I am not able to share this know how in the blog, just the painting remains ( 24x30cm).

Canal Vena – Chioggia

Colorful buildings and sunshine, that´s the memory of Canal Vena, Chioggia…and the nice habits to hang blankets outside.

During the painting session, I had some chat with people of the town – one kept on greeting me all the week I was there 🙂

I got an invitation to the art studio of a local painter ( with a lot of sunflowers on it) and some random comments. It´s part of the fun when you paint in the street to have a lot of feedbacks and to meet peculiar characters.

Venetian lagoon and the Pellestrina island

Another plein air oil painting from the week spent in Italy. This was such a pretty corner that i felt the “moral obligation” to try to capture it in my picture.

The location is a fisherman’s village on the Pellestrina Island ( Venice), I didn’t manage to meet the people living there… now I have to just imagine a funny story to tell about it😉 (25×30 cm)

Nearly a summer afternoon

Sometimes the German weather is particularly generous and Bavarian lakes are the best place to be. Thanks to my friend for the idea, the company , the driving there and for the peanuts too!!!

In case you see two plein air painters on YouTube posted today ( we got even filmed) @ Tegernsee that’s us

The landscape is oil painting on panel 30×24

Early Spring painting

K800_IMG_0072(Edited)

This is the moment of the year when the garden begin to be really a lovely place so today i decided to just paint there. Even is it was more or less warm, I took the freedom to put a bit more sun on the canvas than there was in the  grey afternoon …but the rest is all “true” and the cherry blossom are real 😉

I hope you like it ( 25x30cm oil )

A Monday off

K800_IMG_0068(Edited) (2)

Thanks to the Easter holiday I could enjoy the day painting outside, the photo of the painting is the best i could do but, let´s say it´s just close to the original that is bit brighter in colors.(oil 30×24 cm)

The afternoon was fabulous and nearly warm and the water gave a very nice reflex of the buildings. Painting alone is funny because people just come and join you – today I had an old lady that spent a good half hour with me, watching me painting and telling me the story of her life ( it was a long one as she was i guess around 80 years old). It was even an interesting one , she travelled a lot and lived in several places of Germany and Italy where she had an house. Of the Italian period she was especially proud to have never slept with an Italian man…

Then I had a street artist ( singer) she would like to attend to the next casting show and more regular curious people, finally you are never alone painting in the city.

I hope you enjoy it.
